Disc brakes on road bikes

You've never been to Northamptonshire Rutland or Hertfordshire where I work then. Plenty of places near here where you need to brake 😉

Even in the pancake flat Fens to the East of Pottyboro you need to brake when you're travelling at 30mph and the road suddenly does a 90deg turn, drivers seem to miss that though 😂

Actually when I think about it I’ve cycled in Rutland, daughter dearest lived in Cottesmore for a bit when she and son in law were posted back from Germany. Rode home to Winteringham in Lincolnshire, it’s on the South bank of the Humber. It’s about a 100 miles.
I can’t remember many hills of note though , in fact I can’t remember much about it.😳

Another plus for disc brakes, especially in the rear is the fact the drop out is wider for the disc, and the dish is less. That makes for a stronger wheel.

As it happens I've now got new bike with hydraulic disc brakes. Utterly brilliant.
I rode my old cable braked rim brake bike up to the shop today and the comparison of "feel" was startling. The Ultegra rim brakes are fine but Ultegra discs just seem so much better.

What pulls on the levers if it is not the fingers?

You probably have to have chemo damaged fingers with no feeling to understand (it is thankfully improving). Disc brakes are really good and strong but all the modulation is in my unfeeling fingers, Rim brakes being more gradual the resistance so as well as being in those unfeeling fingers I can actually the resistance transfers down the fingers to my feeling hands. But as I said a few times on this thread you've probably got to have chemo damaged finger nerves to understand and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Lots of relatively short and steepish stuff, they've got me to 40mph + a few times, but compared to what I used to (where I grew up) there's nothing of note. its all relative. Collyweston, Rockingham and Harringworth are amongst the one the locals class are hills
