PTFE tape is most commonly used on rad valves where they screw into the rad.

If, say,a dog was involved and it got hold of the spouting pipe end in its mouth and ran round in circles with it thus preventing the hapless amateur plumber doing anything about it that would probably make it slightly more watchable.
