Do I or don`t I??

A couple of months ago, I sold my toy (another golf). I have not looked back too much. IMO a MKIV golf, even a R32 is not going to become a classic, but that should be immaterial, if you love it, keep it.
R32 has a better chance than a basic diesel, but time will tell on that, maybe another 20 years or so. Who would have thought good Mk1 Escorts (and mk1 Golfs for that matter) would be as valued as they are now? If you look at values of the Cosworth cars (just seen a RS500 Sierra - £65k being asked) I can see them being sort after in the future but theres just too many of them and they are still not that oldyet at the moment to be valued as much more than a used car.

Keep it.
One day you will regret not having not having it....

Just like I do with my Yamaha XJR1300 - brilliant bike, bought new, did about 50k miles on it including tours in France and Spain, always brought a smile to my face (and made me scared as hell when I over did it occasionally). Had children and ended up doing 12 miles in a year on it so on a financial basis got rid of it. Probably one of my worse decisions. Really miss that bike.......

We sound like we have the same taste in bikes....
I had a Sprint for a month...it got taken from a car park.... I was very upset (and would have cheerfully murdered the thieves...and probably still would just by now it would be much slower and involve much more "exquisite" pain) :gun:

Sell it. Remember you're not only gaining the sale price, you're saving the price of tax and insurance (and a bit of fuel I suppose). With more space in the garage you could start a new hobby or have more bicycles, and still have money left over. However, if it's rare and/or an appreciating classic then consider how easy it would be to obtain another in the future, and at what cost. But I suppose that is why you asked the question. I'm not helping much I know.

If it were a fairly common motorcycle like the posters above, I'd definitely sell unless I'd restored it or something.

It is quite a rare car, I think there were only about 1500 made and only over 2 years. Now at 13 years old there can`t be a huge amount left

Sell it. Just think of what else you can do with £8k, new bike, do up the house/garden, foreign travel, more space in garage etc. I find that as I move through life, priorities change and we shouldn't be afraid of letting go the past. And as some others have pointed out, you can always hire one for trips out if you really miss using one.

There are quite a few on Autotrader at the moment and unfortunately none of them are even close to 8K. :rain:

Yes but they`ve also done way over 53K!

You may be disappointed, unfortunately they are only worth what people are willing to pay, my 10 year old MKV GTI in perfect condition with only 40K only got a 1.5K premium over the average tat with 100k plus. Look at it this way - if it is not worth as much, there is more reason to keep it

If I was in your shoes:
Keep it. I can't imagine it is worth anything as an investment. Its a financial burden in terms of depreciation, insurance, VED, MOT, service. But you'll be driving along a road one day, and regret not having the R32 to drive.
If I was advising you:
Think of how much fun you can have with £8,000, and then how much fun you are having with your car now. 500 miles a year isn't great for the car or the engine, and a lot will depreciate through time rather than mileage. You are not generating a low-mileage classic, you are not justifying ownership.
Other options:
1) Car share. Joint own it.
2) Sell and hire something silly every so often.
