Do people still wear suits

My friends said they went to their interviews in smart clothes but not suits. I have two interviews on Wednesday and wondering if I should wear a suit. The last interview I had, I did wear a suit although I had to take the jacket off before I got there as it was too hot (I don't think it was the suit that got me the job though).

Always, and with a tie, always.
I find it very unprofessional to dress smart/casual for work, especially if you are in a position of meeting clients, contractors, etc etc. As for suits and no tie, disgraceful.
Whatever happened to 'first impressions last'
But maybe I'm old fashioned

good as I don't have a tie and am slightly worried that in the past few months I have been in my current job I have done a lot of comfort eating so the suit may no longer fit.

I think it depends on the job.
If I was going for an office based or senior position I'd wear a suit, or atleast a skirt and smart jacket.
For a job in retail or in school (those are the only interviews I've had recently) I would favour the smart-casual look.

Unfortunately the only answer here is, 'It depends'.

I would suggest finding out the dress code of the place you want to work in before attending the interview. Interview clothes should at least be to this level of formality. You don't want to be more casual than the people interviewing you.

I would normally wear full suit and tie if I didn't know in advance that my potential employer had a different dress code.

Suit for an interview every time. IMHO Shows courtesy, respect and that you are taking the interview seriously. Both the candidate and the respective employer are out to sell themselves and the packaging does matter I believe. I give this opinion having been both sides of the table. It is however my opinion and you have to decide what you are most comfortable with.

I'll wear trousers, shirt and tie... but never a suit. In fact it's my ambition to never own a suit.

Never had a formal interview, but wear a suit when meeting new corporate clients for the first time... ties appear to be uncool for 'trendy' architects/ consultants, providing you have a collar bordering on one the size of Harry Hill's...

I've never owned or worn a suit ever, although I used to wear a shirt and tie to work until health and safety legislation put a stop to it and forced the company have a proper uniform policy.

Depends.
Last-but one interview I had, I wore smart trousers, jacket, shirt and tie. I was an external candidate.
Last interview, I was an internal candidate, and I knew that the interviewing manager wore a suit but no tie.
So I did the same.
Got the job both times.
But if in doubt, go smarter. You'll never be marked down for wearing a suit and tie.

If I was going for an interview with an internet company or something creative then I would dress smart casual. Otherwise suit and tie every time

Depends on the job and your level of confidence I reckon.

I went for a graphic/multimedia design job at a radio station wearing "religious jeans" and a t-shirt with no problem.

My first interviewers at the bank I now work for were less impressed with such garb, but still hired me.
