Do you ride faster than Usain Bolt runs?

According to Stephen Fry on a QI I just watched, he can do 27 MPH, for short stretches. I'm gobsmacked anyone can run that fast.

Its crazy to comprehend how fast it is, especially if you think about how quickly drag increases as you speed up on your bike and how upright Bolt is by the later parts of his 100m sprint.

Id love to see Bolt run in person, it must look freakishly fast.

My money'd be on Bolt, over that distance!

that would be my guess, not enough wind up time for Cav

The nearest comparison in track cycling would be a 500m standing start time trial, which is a women only event, they take about 35 secs. But that's with a fixed gear, and the first lap is considerably slower than the second.

Even with gears to get the bike rolling I would doubt any cyclist could beat Bolt over 100m.

I've been doing circuits round Richmond Park lately, where there's a 20 MPH limit. I think cars keep to it, more or less. Which means when they overtake me, I'm probably doing 18, 19, something like that. It feels pretty fast to me. The idea that at that speed Usain Bolt could speed past me, on foot, is just jaw-dropping.
