Do young gurls drink too?

Dear Crank

Yes young women drink. What would you rather they did? sit at home doing a bit of cross stitching?

I think you're reading too much there. Crankarm's been here long enough for people who pay attention to realise that he's a bit surprised by some things. Bits of quiet Cambridgeshire, as we've seen before with some of his other posts may not get as much violence and other things as say some massive UK cities and towns. Some of the colourful language he uses leads people to conclude otherwise, but he's only posted once in this thread I'm not sure he did necessarily mean it like you are. So if you want, then you can take the lazy option, but I don't see the thread going anywhere (if anyone did).

I think a better approach (whether he listens or not) is to talk about various theories in youth culture and the rise of the 'ladette' to explain to him. I've certainly met people who have never heard the phrase 'ladette' or seen some of the more wild Hen parties that are often compared to Stag Dos or sports socials.

I don't mind the discussion of alcohol abuse men and women. But this isn't talking about men though is it? I'd be happy to talk about that but it's the presumptions of a moralistic nature esp when prescribed to sexual assault that makes this very specifically not just about alcohol abuse.

Yes it's nothing new for girls and boys to drink but it's the undertone that's what people are querying.

Generalisations and sweeping ones at that are not helpful. It's like saying a Middle aged man smiled at kid now that automatically makes him a paedophile?!

Well MY, I don't know crankarm as well as you do but a bit of sarcastic humour never hurt anyone.
In fact, you may well have read the time where I tried to explain patiently on the short skirts thread but at times it was hitting my head against rocks of various sizes. It gets very trying..

FFS.
Clearly no point in my objecting to blaming the potential victim, if we're ready to say she'd have brought it on herself by getting drunk.
And no-one's objecting to the subject itself, but the moralistic and somewhat misogynist tone in which it's being raised. Or am I talking bollocks with that as well?

I enjoy many of Crankarm's posts and see no harm in reading his occasionally rather extreme take on things! However with this thread, if there was no underlying sexism within the original post, then what was the 'gurl' thing all about? Crankarm generally seems to have a decent grasp of language and grammar so I can't see it as a genuine error. If it was then I take that back of course.

The whole OP is laden with value judgements - 'making a show of themselves', comments on the appearance, drinking too much. That they're 'young gurls'.
It's that casual sexism I object to. The smug, belittling attitude.

Am I alone in saying 'well done' to Crankarm for at least enquiring about the girls wellbeing?

No, well done crankers. I'd like to think I'd do the same irrespective of the gender of the people involved if I thought someone was in trouble.

Your actions were commendable; your thread however is bolocks.
