You lot haven't got a clue. The chain doesn't shrink, the frame expands after a ride. If @Yellow Saddle were here he'd be apopleptic, and rightly so.

Yes. Definitely.
Unfortunately she won't let me have the key.

You're all forgetting magnetic alignment. It could be catastrophic if your bike isn't left overnight facing due north or south. However, don't take any notice of that ley line nonsense. The rest of the advice has been all sciency and stuff, but the ley line crap is just silly.

I'm considering only using bikes built pre-1945 so I've not got a pics of irradiated steel between my legs, slowly microwaving my trouser vegetables. I'm sure they glow like the Ready Brek kids if you look hard enough.

I very much look forward to using this expression soon...

I knew someone who insisted that "bikes should be left with the chain on the smallest chainring and sprocket because any other combination permanently stetches the springs in the rear derailleur"!

The first time I heard that was when a workmate was told it by the shop who sold him a new bike. Needless to say it was the type of shop where the range of bikes went from diabolical BSOs to merely awful BSOs.
