Does your partner cycle

If you are in a relationship and are a serious cyclist is it essentilal to have a partner who is also a cyclist. It is nice when you see couples cycling together but there must be couples where only one is a cyclist.

How did you catch her - and keep her?


Yes my Mrs does. And unlike @User14044's case she can't get away

Ludwig- get a tandem, you'll never be alone again.... in a good way... then your speed is only dependent on how much you both push on the pedals [you can tell]. It's great for getting really good work-out training while your partner can contribute as much [it's like having electric assist], or as little, as they want.

+ they are in control of looking around, passing the sandwiches and drinks and generally keeping the conversation going while you get your breath back at the top of hills.

Mrs Ian is not a cyclist and has no interest in cycling. She is a runner and I have no interest in running. We are both very happy at that arrangement.
We obliviously share many other parts of our lives and don't feel we have to be in each others pockets all the time.

Yes, she loves it, but due to being partially sighted only rides with me.

Mr J finally learned a few weeks ago at the ripe old age of 52, but has yet to get on a bike in anger. Judging by his complaints at the time, I suspect he is in post ouch-my-bum shock.

Occasionally my wife cycles, when she has to. She prefers swimming. Last year I did the palace to palace on her behalf as she was poorly, nothing serious.
She suffers with chronic migraines so we have to work around it most days.

Not really, she learned to ride for the first time in her life about 18 months ago, we bought a nice step through Revolution Heritage from Edinburgh Bikes but TBH I've ridden it more than her. It went out on loan to a twitter pal who's bike had been stolen recently too. All in a bit of a fad for her.

Decided she wanted to so I built her a sweet road bike. She immediately fell pregnant and hasn't ridden it at all!

Bike as fertility aid?

Mrs Tigers doesn't cycle, she also doesn't swim, run or drive...in fact she's not really that keen on getting off the couch!

Most of our cycling is done together. We have done nearly 3000 miles in the last eighteen months. We are about to pick up our n+1's next week, it was her idea to buy them.

Mrs F has a fairly decent old-skool tourer, but doesn't cycle all that often.
