Not sure what brought the fight on, but the guy that recorded it is a twat!

In a way, this incident is a positive thing for cyclists. IMHO, too many people see cyclists as a soft target for their aggression because in general we tend to be a decent bunch of people and a bit too placid for our own good.

We need more psychos on bikes who are willing to drag neanderthals out of their white vans (or even Porsches) and give them a good pasting. It might eventually make the aggressive driver think twice. Not that I condone violence of course, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire!

I was speaking slightly tongue in cheek, but I think we have all had experiences with aggressive drivers where we would like to do what the Govan cyclist did. It's only our respect for the law (and possibly fear of coming off second best!) that stops us.

I agree to a point and have been in similar situations myself when younger and more hot headed however have mellowed over the years.
You're spot on, respect for the law stops most of us and stooping to their level can be dangerous.
Violence and anger often leads to worse outcomes IME

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Looks like the cyclist thought he was the one wronged because he took a photo of the car registration by the looks of it.

Violence should not be the answer, however in the heat of the moment with adrenaline high and the thought that you could have been killed I can understand how he lost it.

This is an ideal example to counter the usual posts on here where someone cites Kenneth Noye as a reason not to upset drivers. It works both ways.

A couple of years ago I pondered on here that one day a driver will come across a Kenneth Noye on a bicycle and this shows that it’s not the mode of transport that determines how someone will react but their temperament. I can quite easily imagine that the cyclist’s adrenaline was high as a result of some stupidity by the driver. Badly driven cars are threatening enough, so a driver going to the extent of then getting out of his car to go face to face with a cyclist is an act of aggression. It would not be unreasonable for the rider to feel at threat of imminent assault and to strike out.

That driver doesn’t look like he’ll be trying that again.

I thought maybe it was a Govan thing.

It's this road, a two lane urban dual carriageway, pretty sure it's a 30mph limit but it links up various parts of the motorway and the Clyde Tunnel and there's generally a lot of traffic trying to get to places in a hurry.

From the positioning of the vehicles and the bike it doesn't look like they passed each other at any point, so my money's on the rider either being in the centre of the lane or even just in normal riding position away from the kerb and the driver not being able to overtake because of traffic in the outside lane; if they'd been in that position since the tunnel roundabout that would have been about a mile and maybe invoking the ire of the driver into beeping or driving aggressively, and the rider getting the hump. Didn't look like there was any impact from how the bike was arranged in front of the car. All speculation though.

At least he was wearing hi-viz so we could see what was happening.
