I order online quite alot, usually stuff for work and parts for the van and I used to have a huge issue with parcels being stolen.

We live in a block of flats where the communual entrance doors dont lock (been arguing with landlord 8 years over this) so anyone can walk in after the delivery guys have been and just take our parcels :banghead:

All 6 flats in the block got fed up of it last December and we ALL got ring door bell cameras, you cant get into the block now without someone seeing you.. the parcel thefts stopped VERY quickly when we caught them on the cameras and posted the footage in the local facebook groups :laugh:

We recently had a delivery driver take a "proof of delivery" photo and then take the parcel himself... we complained to Royal Mail who essentially called us liars, then we sent 3 doors worth of ring doorbell camera footage. Got an apology, compensation for the cost and a goodwill gesture. Havent seen that driver since.

Big Marketing Brother is watching us... I have now started seeing ads for webcams on other websites!

That might explain why I have started to see a lot of "People you might know" things on Facebook that are of "ladies" that seem to have forgotten to put a blouse on

I knew I should never have posted anything on "That Thread" @Drago started!!!

We had a near miss this morning. Dopey Amazon driver couldn't be bothered to knock on the door or press the doorbell, just stuck it in the top of the recycling bin and took the photo saying left in safe place. Luckily they message quickly after delivery and we have cctv, disaster averted.

"essentially called us liars"

Is that another way of saying that they weren't in a position to do anything before you had provided the doorcam footage?

"essentially" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here (no pun intended)

Apparently it's not so straight forward.
If you designate a secure place to leave it and it is stolen the you are responsible.
If you don't specify any particular place then that is a whole different ball game.

Do people here understand the time pressure these delivery drivers are under?
Probably 100+ drops a day, have you seen the condition of the Amazon vans.
You want it cheap this is what you get.
Buy from shops that use Royal mail, a far better delivery service.

Worst delivery company near me is DPD.
There was a lego parcel which was dispatched earlier than anticipated from Lego so I wasn’t at home.

I specified my safe space as the shed in the garden, so they left it under the patio table in the pouring rain in a cardboard box!

Second worst is the Amazon driver, doesn’t knock, doesn’t leave round the back, just dumps on the doorway and runs or takes a parcel from the warehouse and then must clock off shift. I get a notice saying your parcel will be delivered between 5-11pm, it turns up at 3/4pm the next day. I’ve reported him several times now but Amazon don’t seem to be doing anything about him.

I've seen a perfum online I want to buy for a friend. It's approximately £37.50, down from £70, including P&P. The same perfume, but with a lesser reduction of £50 is on sale/offer at Boots. There's a Boots store about 5 miles from me that's open till 8pm. I could go and buy the perfume from Boots now, or save myself £12.50 and buy it online. Question! Should I buy it from 5 miles away Boots and pay £12.50 more, or should I save £12.50 by buying it online, but then I'd have the worry of doorstep, wheeliebin etc theft, as I think the parcel would be too big to fit through my letterbox.🤔

Saving an extra £12.50 is not to be sniffed at.

Check the item on Boots' website first, might be cheaper.
You can ask for delivery to the store.
And/or ask the store if they do price match with the one you already have found online

Not me personally. Dealt with loads in the dibble, even way back then.

Technically, if a human recipient hasn't received the parcel, its not been legally delivered and the vendor remains liable, and the vendor is hence the victim.

sometimes not quite as clear cut as that - if you tell them to leave in a safe place etc then it becomes a little less clear on liability as you can be deemed to have consented to that and if it goes missing, you may struggle to prove it was vendor's liability

Does the online retailer have an option to deliver to one of those parcel locker things?

I don't know, but I doubt they do. Though the courier might offer such a service.🤔

I'm probably going to buy the perfume from Boots as although I'll 'lose' £12.50, I won't have the anguish of fearing it being lost in transit or nicked off my doorstop as I would if I bought it for less online. Plus with such as Boots you're almost certain it won't be a fake, which is possible with never heard of before online sellers. Plus I have a £25 gift voucher from answering O.N.S statistical questions, so that'll 'cushion the blow' of 'losing' £12.50 😉
