With a big fat birthday looming on the distant (but not too distant to plan ahead!) horizon, I mentioned to hubby my wish for a new bike. His response was, that as my current bike has been so well looked after and HE has spent so much £ on it (new reasonably priced wheels, pedals and new saddle) this expense can't be justified and my current steed should see me ok for at least another 10 years, lol. How do fellow forum members convince their other half when a purchase is "required"??

I have the opposite problem Mrs M!
I'm the one who says 'we can't afford this' and he's the one who says 'If it makes you happy then get it'.
That's how I ended up with a second steed! I was swithering, wondering if I should spend my money on something for the house or family or another bike. I was told to 'do what makes you happy'. So I did!

I`m sowing the seeds for my first road bike purchase.

Today.... 3 or 4 mile ride out to a nice country pub, she is on her Carrera Subway and I say "you`ll be better off with a road bike" I get home and show her the Merlin PR7 vid, she likes...... job done :thanks:

You can always justify N+1 as long as it does a different job better than your current bike.
(That's how we ended up with a dozen about the house. )
Will " sow the seeds" make him think it's his idea, (that's how I got a new bathroom). Like look of a cyclo cross bike so will convince him it's a great idea so we don't always have to stick to the road, (he has a hybrid). Thanks for that Here's a wee pic of my bike.

You must analyse your household requirements and split them into "essential" and "desirable". Clearly, in your case your new bike is an essential requirement. Your other half will no doubt have other essential requirements of his own ( unless of course he has a stunted acquisitive urge, in which case you will have to assert yourself).

Barter is the answer.
