Drinking in a pub on your own

I don't drink in pubs any more but even when I did, I never went to them alone. I don't go to any other similar establishment alone either - cafes, restaurants, cinema etc.

The only time that I really talk to strangers is on bike rides, and I can't see the point in spending a lot more money doing something alone in public than I would need to spend in doing it alone at home!

I feel uncomfortable 'people watching' so if I have to meet someone I make sure I arrive a couple of minutes after the arranged time. If they are later than me, I quite often go outside and wander around until I see them turn up.

I love a pint on my own. Even more so if its a nice quiet proper pub not a chain that is food orientated get the paper and sit by the fire. In fact Monday night is my walk into the village for a few and a walk back with a takeaway for mrs pplpilot and myself, best night as its nice and quiet too....

I have never felt uncomfortable or self conscious on my own. In my drinking days if there was a band playing in a pub that I particularly wanted to listen to I would make a point of going alone so I could hear them without having to have a shouted conversation above the music with someone. The big danger, of course, was attracting the pub bore who was looking for some defenceless soul to hone in on.

In fact I might take the dog for a quiet pint tonight .....

As you mature with age and experience, you tend to be philosophical and the desire to ponder and think thru in solitude becomes more pronounced. It can be meditation, a walk with the dog, or a quite tipple without company. Something that you never anticipate or expect in younger days.

For the rich, there are resorts such as Banyan Tree which serve them. Built in exotic locations with breathtaking scenery and hardly a soul around.

For the rest of us, it's the little corner in the Pub and it does work.

Nothing at all wrong with it, though I tend to do my drinking alone when I'm away on business.

Actually, I've got a book I want to get into, and I really fancy a pint of Old Original.... Hmmmm.....

I am in my late-twenties and I like going to the cinema on my own. I don't get a chance to do it as much now I work full time. I have been known to go out for lunch/dinner by myself to a pub with a notebook, novel or some knitting and have that important me-time or peoplewatch!! Who doesn't love peoplewatching!

Your privelege of course, but there are lots of reasons. Social interaction if you've been alone all day; chance encounters with the other sex (); draught bitter; relieving cabin fever by just being somewhere different; stretching your legs; scampi fries () etc
