No, it’s much worse than that. Ironically for a 4x4 enthusiast I loathe and detest the majority of 4x4's. Not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with the vehicles but the fact that they are nice shiny status symbols, purchased for no other reason than to look wealthy/fashionable or because they are perceived as 'safe' (for whom?).
IMO if someone wants/needs a comfy, large car then what is wrong with a big saloon or estate car? If traction is a problem then plenty of these are available with 4wd without having to drive around in a top heavy, overweight, off-road capable (I use this term loosely in relation to the X5!) vehicle.

Saw one of those yesterday. Snow, rain, ice, but still maintaining a demented 100mph+ up the M1.
