Driving under the influence of drugs

Whilst out cycling i am often overtaken by a car leaving a trail of a strong smell of cannabis. Tonight I noticed it on two occasions over my 16 mile ride. It's a bit of an eye opener to how common this problem really is. Sometimes you may smell it whilst going around your daily business but you can never pin point who's smoking the vile stuff, but whilst out on the bike you seem to know exactly which vehicle its coming from. It's a worrying thought, knowing that a motorist has just passed you on your bike intoxicated with drugs. Its that strong sometimes you smell it for a good few minutes after the cars gone by. God know what the inside of the vehicle must smell like. Does anybody else ever notice this when there out cycling.

It's very common. Would pass a number of cars every day. I can even smell it when I'm in the car and behind a smoker.

No traffic police or plod on the beat especially during the day so people know they can drive with impunity and there is little chance of being caught unless they have an accident.

I saw(and smelt)some youths in a VW Golf the other week,smoking dope. They then set off tyres screeching at speed towards the main road where i witnessed them driving like nutters to a mini roundabout,before turning back and repeating the stunt. I phoned 999,with the operator saying they'd send someone out asap. I watched them for about 15 minutes,going back to the car park to top up on dope before setting off again.Surely this warranted a blue flashing light followed by them being stopped,but no one turned up.

May well have been waiting to see what route they took, given they were at a junction.

The "Blues & Twos" may have been what those in the car were wanting.

Yep, 1 in 7 coppers have gone since 2010, and the numbers weren't stellar to begin with outside of London.

It would go in the round cylinder filing cabinet under the desk, smelling it isn't the same as the driver partaking which again isn't the same as them being over the limit. Very likely but you can't take someone to court for very likely.

When I was a penniless student we used to save money by hotboxing my car. The car was probably pungent but I would never take it anywhere near driving.

Report it.

It will get logged as intelligence, and 2 or three calls like that and suddenly they've got sufficient corroboration to go before a Magistrate and ask for a warrant.

Definitely report it. In Lancashire the Police have encouraged residents in our street to report speeding and we have successfully dealt with two or three habitual speeders in this way. After three reports they receive a visit from the Police and a final warning.

Do those reports have to come from different witnesses or will they act if it's from the same person? I'm thinking they might think the one person is a "busybody" or has a personal vendetta against the speeding offender.

Can anybody give a reasonable idea what it smells like. I have been in the presence of smokers but at least 30 years ago so cannot really remember. Bit difficult I know. Anything like burnt tea leaves for example?
