Update.

For anyone thinking of going down this route then my advice is to ignore a lot of the advice given and just get on with it.

The addition of a simple speed sensor on the rear wheel and pairing with your watch gives me all the information I wanted....time, distance, MPH, heart rate. (You can attach and pair a cadence sensor as well if you require). This information is then automatically sent to Connect / Strava at the end of your session.

So it would appear a dumb trainer can me made smart enough for someone who just wants the information and who doesn't want the videos / subscription.

Over and out.

Good for you :okay:

I use a dumb trainer. Initially, I bought some generic, low cost speed, cadence and heart rate sensors from Amazon and paired then via BT to my iPhone and installed Strava on the phone to record my rides. I now have a Garmin Edge 530 bike computer and the sensors are paired to that with my rides being recorded on the Garmin Connect app, which automatically sends the data to Strava.

This configuration also works with Zwift.

Simples
