dura ace brakes which dont open back up...

...like they used to. they are old brakes but they don not seem to spring back and end up touching the rim slightly which also highlighted the slight buckle to teh rim too. I pull open again


so why are they sticking and what can i do to remedy it?

Either

a)the spring has worn or muck has built up in the area where the brakes pivot (probably a bit of both). I'd take them apart,clean and then apply a drop of oil to them.

or

b)the brake cabling is naff.

thanks was hoping not to have to dismantle, new cabling end of last year. can you get new springs?

It can also be friction in the cables. Do they spring open if you disconnect them?

Take off the arms, clean and grease the pivot points. No need to touch the cable unless it's sticking inside the outer.

i will have a look this weekend, i think they stick without the cable anyways, when i need to true the wheel slightly too.

A lazy person would take the wheel out and give metal part of the brakes a liberal quirt of WD40 from a variety of angles.
