I've been feeling really lethargic and starving and out of sorts.

I do eat, but probably not the right stuff and not enough.

When I read about it on the internet I get overwhelmed and really bored with all the "20 grams of bland food A" and "30 grams of bland food B".

Anyway, I do recognise that I need to eat properly to power my commute and also to lose weight.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Complex carbs is what you need.

Aboid burgers, kebabs and general greasy poop the night before a commute.

porridge with a banana for breakfast
+1 for that, though I put blueberries in mine, makes it taste nice.
Also do muesli before my walks.

eating at the right times makes a HUGE difference for me at least, my 'food plan' is something like this for a normal commuting day
07:15-breakfast (2 bowls of cereals in summer or 1 big bowl of porridge in winter)
about mid morning whenever i get the 15 minute break-sweet sandwich(generally jam or sometimes honey and very rarely even lemon curd!)
lunchtime whenever that is-savoury sandwich (generally either cheese and/or ham)
just before i pedal home at about 15:30-a banana and a snack bar

this is just what roughly works for me and my 15 mile round trip commute but may differ for you
Cheers Ed
PS:brown bread and butter for sandwiches ALWAYS
PPS: take into account that because i am growing i may take more calories than normal
