Did the guys bitd rode bigger frames?
I think nothing of riding with a with 6" seat post showing?
As I see lots of 23-24" frame bikes and cannot imagine them being bigger guys population wise?

Unless big guys were more into cycling?!!

Maybe it's giant and Mike Burrows fault!🤣

Yes bitd we rode them large size as we were always told that we would grow into them

Bear in mind that (as you allude to) most modern stuff has sloping top tubes so shorter seatpost tubes and more seatpost on display for a given saddle height. Also it seems that stems were potentially shorter which would also accommodate a larger frame in terms of reach.

And of course as we get older we 'grow back' into bigger frames as it's much easier than having to bend over a smaller one .
