I must admit I did think about trying mine out but the lack of lever is stopping me

When I was in my early teens I used to go into a bike shop in the town centre of Weston Super mud and gawp at a selection of Raleigh frames and bikes that they sold.

Always fancied a Raleigh Record in the red with yellow in full 531 tubing never got one as teenager or as an adult yet .

Imagine my surprise when I was walking around today's bike auction there was one in amongst the piles of bso's and next to it was an equally fancied Raleigh Rapide from a few years later .... The only downside was they were no more than 20" frame size 😔

I can do those (seat bushes, pivot, etc) but it's too far to travel and I bet the rear triangle is rotted out under the powdercoat.

The seller said someone was coming to collect it and I have not heard anything since, so I assume it was taken (thank goodness!).

At 194cm tall I am no further from the ground than most other people.

That would have been Les Wilkins I think, opposite the Odeon, bought my Raleigh Pioneer and lots of bits and bobs from there
