To be honest I use e-bay less and less now as it's swamped with business sellers. I nearly bought some 105 STI's on there a while back until I researched the seller and found his online shop. The same kit for £5 less and free postage, so my e-bay 'bargain' would have cost me another £15. Some of the genuine secondhand stuff is ok but you need to know enough to buy safely. I actually prefer using the forums for picking up kit.

There are undoubtably some bargains there. I got my Minoura bike stand in perfect condition for £13, when it was £100 on wiggle

Very true, you do have to be quite selective though

I have been watching this item for a few days and it was never moving, so I put in a couple of bids just over the highest bid to see how it went - all it did was bump the price up a little.

So I'll sit and wait....not too fussed if I get it but if I do I'll be pleased as I will not go above the price I have set in my head.

Once you've registered, you just decide the maximum you're prepared to pay for the, let's say, pump. £10. Log that.

Ten seconds before the closing time, auctionstealer will bid £10. If the highest other bid at that moment is £4, you will win - for £4.50. If the highest bid at that moment is £7, you will win - for £7.50. If the highest bid at that moment is £11, you lose.

Simples, as the meerkat say.

There are still some bargains to be had, not many but they are there...
Its mainly the items that the seller can't be bothered to post as they massively reduce their target audience or ones that end at quiet times of the day.

Wednesday I bought a Guitar Hero 5 Controller for the PS3 for £5 brand new in a box! because there was no postage offered no one bid. Picked up some golf clubs too for £31 locally re listed them on ebay and added a postage offer, sold them for £221 a few days later. ;):biggrin:

+1 for not bidding too soon noodles! everyone (except me :biggrin:) uses mates or a seperate account to bump up the price if some over eager buyers starts to bid 2 days before the auction is up.

P.S. Good Luck!

What always surprises me, is that some people actually pay over the odds for item on E-Bay. In some cases a simple internet search will yield cheaper results.

I remember looking for a new phone a few years back, it was around £80 in the shops. So i thought i'd try ebay, the lunatics on there were paying £100+ for the same phone.

I have (48*) next to my account on ebas so I guess I have used it that many times.

One extra point I think was missed, if you bit say £40 and are winning at £24 if someone bids £30, your bid automatically goes to £31 and then if they go £39 it goes to £40

If you bit £40.01 you will outbid a £40.00 in the auto mode but you will have to bid say £41.00 if it is on £40.00 (or what ever the bid incriment is). So put an odd penny or two on your bid.

If you get pipped at the post by a bidder and then are offered the item when the top bidder mysteriously withdraws - tell them to get stuffed or offer a lot less. This is most likely due to the seller bidding up his own item and getting caught out. Your last bid will be inflated by this scam.

I have bought lots of stuff and generally have been very happy with what I ended up with. Also offloaded a fair bit.
Bought - ice skates, flute, chainsaw, windows, trailer, trailer tent, car parts, towbar, cables, cycling glasses.
Sold - more ice skates, rollerblades, cast iron radiators, old trailer tent.

When selling - dont guess the postage, it is can be quite high.

I find it quite a fun way to shop - but I guess I dont get out much!

Did you win it Noodley?

It has an hour to go and the price has gone past what I would have paid....

...I also think it's quite funny that it's called 'winning' rather than 'paying the highest'
