EBay problem

On Ebay I bought a Sora group set which had been removed from a new bike. Everything was there except that one of the clamps to hold the shifter to the handlebar was missing. The seller is not interested and just that he didn't say it was included, and that the other one was there as a bonus. I pointed out that he didnt say that the cassette lock ring or the caliper fixing were included but that they were all there.
What should do next?

Leave him negative feedback, report him to eBay. You bough a Group Set, everything should have been there. He should be giving you money back so you can source the missing clamp.

Inform him it's not fit for purpose and tell him you will open a dispute with ebay if he doesn't agree to a refund.

If he agrees send it back, (recorded), get your refund and leave negative feedback.

If he doesn't agree then open the case and escalate it to a dispute, this means ebay weigh up both sides arguments and make a final decision, but seeing as you cannot uae the goods as intended I can't imagine you would lose TBH.

Good luck.

As mentioned open up a case with Ebay, you will win and he'll then have to either send you a partial refund or find the bit he didn't send you.
After all it's not a group set without it, it's just part of a group set- even if it is 95%

If you funded the payment by credit card threaten to start a card chargeback- this will cost the seller £14 on top of your payment. You also have 120 days to do it and get better protection than Paypal offers. I always fund by credit card for these reasons.
  1. Why does PayPal charge a fee when I receive a chargeback?
    https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/.../article/?...CHARGEBACKS...
If you're not covered, PayPal may still be able to help you to dispute the chargeback but in the meantime we'll reverse the amount of the transaction plus a settlement fee of £14per chargeback filed. It's not possible to dispute the chargeback in all cases.

  • Shimano Sora rear deraillieur
  • Shimano HG-50, 9 speed, 11-32 cassette
  • Brake callipers AXIS 1.0 with pads
cables & chain not included.#

Here is my message thread.

Hi, all is looking well with the groupset except that the L/H shifter has the clamp missing as per the picture attached, its part number y6vx98080, can't mount it on the handlebars without it? JP

Hi, when i bought the shifters, the item i bought was not meant to have a clamp in the first place therefore i did not say it was included in the description of my item.
Many Thanks,

You also didnt say that the other shifter had one, but its there, you didn't say that the cassette included a lock ring, but its there. These are components that you need to install the parts and should be included. Would you like to sort it out for me so that they can be installed?

Hi, I did not say the group set was complete in my description and therefore I only included the main parts as I kept many of the brackets, clamps etc. it was a mistake on my part to leave some items in the group set.
Many thanks

Would you like to rectify this mistake please before I have to pay out more money for your omission? JP

I'm saying it was accidentally included, so it should be taken as a bonus

OK, I have a choice of raising a Dispute or just going straight for Feedback. What do you think?

'when i bought the item it was not meant to have a clamp in the first place' HAHAHAHA! very funny

on a more serious note though open a case with ebay as the item is not fit for function and is not as described. fair enough if he would have put in the description 'missing left hand lever clamp thingy' then you would have no argument because item would be as described but as it is it isn't. it is also effectively damaged preventing use
Cheers Ed

You used to be able to open a case in the Resolution Center and have various options for recourse, like full refund, partial refund etc. Whatever I try now just takes me to the Returns page where all I can do is a full refund.

I would send it back for a full refund. There's no point trying to get some money back for a small part, who knows what that would cost.
