Whilst I would indeed start the process immediately, I'd say that the danger is that, if the seller wants to play by the rules, then he doesn't need to recognise that the package has been lost until the Post Office have done so.Steve Austin said:The seller should refund you immediately. his claim for loss is with the PO, and it doesn't matter a bit if they have lost his package.
