Call me an old hippy, but I rather like the Quarry Cafe, which is an outpost of the marvellous Centre for Alternative Technology (just up the road in Pantperthog). It's in the main drag (Heol Maengwyn), very near the clock tower. I think it's vegetarian, but you can get decent substantial pies served with big salads, and homemade cakes. Local wholefoods 'n' all that.

Sounds like a good place to stop

Sorry, I'm going to have to decline this one formally.
Following weekend is my Half Marathon, so need a bit of a rest before the event, or at the least, a gentle exercise, and this route doesn't look like this.
Hope you have a great time. And go gentle on DRSquirrel - don't push him up those hills too fast.

Hope the Half Marathon goes well and I promise not to be too hard on Dr S

I initially planned to meet at the visitor centre car park but as it doesn t open untill 10am the visitor centre that is I may have to think again.

Are the gates closed? The access road (right off the junction) is very wide and could take cars up along the side.

There is also the large car park next to the first dam, 1 mile up, or the car park next to the first bridge 2 miles up. Both on the route.

I parked at the visitor center last year. You got a ticket from a machine outside. Looks unlikely I can do this one unfortunately.

Some Elan Valley pictures.
