Elastomer Shocks on a GT LTS 5

Hello

I bought my brother a GT LTS 5 on Ebay last year. Lovely bike and a bit of a bargain except that it has unusual elastomer rear shocks. They are getting a bit knackered and it looks like it might be tricky to find replacements. Anyone know where I might find them? Alternatively, it looks like it might be possible to replace them with a different kind of shock - someone suggested a Rock Shox Coupe Deluxe. Does anyone know if this will work, or have any other advice?
