employment rights and agency staff

all I know is that the company where surprised by the agencies decision not to pay, and a fair bit of scratching of heads was done on friday, I'll know more on monday but I wouldn't be surprised if the agency hasn't billed at time and a half....
at the end of the day what concerns me more is that they have the right to stop me working for whomever I please, i could understand a week or two but 6 months is taking the ****, surely this affects my employment rights or something...

As has been said before, just change agencies and tell them you work there already. If your existing agency have a problem with that then tell them to sue you. I doubt that they will. In fact I doubt that they could.
