I've given up using saddle bags, they spoil the lines of a bike and fret and wear the seat post.

Jersey pocket 1: spare inner tube rolled tight and taped with 2 levers.

Pocket 2: glasses case with some Rennies and folded cash, gas dispenser with a cylinder up the spout.

That's it. If my bike maintenance is so bad that I need a tool out on the road I'll wait for a passing cyclist or shoulder the bike and hitch home.

Hmmm... Have never tried to use a tyre boot, but I reckon a doubled strength inner tube might still be too flexible? Maybe a couple of sections of cut down plastic milk carton? I guess it depends on the size of cut in the tyre of course!
