The brilliant composer who famously wrote the scores for the spaghetti westerns following his friendship with director Sergio Leone has dies at the age of 91. He also composed music for many other films and TV shows and received two oscars as well as other awards for his work. He was annoyed that he was constantly connected with the westerns and called it a ‘straight jacket’.
Sad news.

I'm interested to find out more about this: "He also made boundary-pushing avant garde work with Gruppo di Improvvisazione di Nuova Consonanza, a collective of experimental, improvisational composers."

A musical genius I reckon.

And incredibly prolific.

Did way way more than the spaghetti westerns.

I have a double CD of his stuff.

Had the chance to see him conduct at the Albert Hall a few years ago which I stupidly let pass.

He also did a not very well known film

Days of Heaven - used to have the (then) hard to get soundtrack album but lost it.
