I think they load you and the bikes into a minibus off site, pop you on the train, and do the same the other end.

i am just looking at my be going past the ww 1 and ww2 sites on my way down France to Spain then Portugal.

If i did the eurotrunnel or ferry from dover i would not double back on my self if i did check out some of the sites.

It is possible to put your bike on the same eurostar on which one travels. I have just booked two bicycles on the Eurostar to Brussels in May. I phoned first, was told there were bike spaces for the dates I wanted and I booked up. It costs £30 per bike journey. It is also possible to send bikes as freight for £25 but it is not guaranteed that your bike travels on the same train as you do. The other option is to dismantle the bike and carry on as luggage.

I think the OP means the Folkestone - Calais, car carrying shuttle trains, not Eurostars.
Eurostar let you take a bike as luggage if it's bagged, which is a wheels-off, saddle down job.
Unless you take a Brommie, of course...

You dont pay twice... £16 is the fare. Eurotunnel do not carry foot passengers, so you pay for the vehicle, in your case, the bike.

Even so... The ferry is a couple of pounds more, and has sailings every hour or more, rather than two trips a day on the Shuttle. I'd still use the ferry.

Didn't know they did that. But as you say it is only twice a day whereas ferries are two a penny
