Must be something in the air today. This evening I carefully washed the bowl for cereal, then poured cereal into my tea mug.
Fortunately, the mug was empty.
I have managed to crack an egg into the bin, only to then think “bugger…this shell won’t whisk very well” as I’m about to drop it into a jug….

I've only just joined, and this thread caught my eye, given that I'm constantly amazed by my own stupidity.
I see there are 20 pages full of delights to read. That'll keep me going for a while. Perhaps in those 20 pages there's been who's duplicated my finest hour, bike-wise:
One day I was replacing a crank (although I don't remember why). Not a lot could go wrong there, I thought. After finally putting it on, and stepping back to admire my efforts, I realized that I'd put it on pointing the same direction as the other.
I could have left it as it was, and ridden on it in a clown-type fashion, but decided perhaps it was best to undo my "good work".

I work with a computer, and various mobile devices next to me, I've just been flummoxed for a few minutes as I wondering why nothing I typed on my keyboard was appearing on my screen. Then I realised I was expecting my computer keyboard to suddenly start sending inputs to the mobile device

I have tried clicking on my laptop screen directly with my finger. It is not a touchscreen...I work with a computer, and various mobile devices next to me, I've just been flummoxed for a few minutes as I wondering why nothing I typed on my keyboard was appearing on my screen. Bike related - I have seen my pal get to the cycling cafe and with his pint of tea - open the sugar sachet and empty it into the bin rather than his mug.
I've also noticed that my bar plug was coming loose and given it a belt. As I was riding. Who could possibly have foreseen the bike leaping across the road like that !?

Just remembered another one...
I was replacing the drive in a cheap laptop of mine. It was a right fiddle undoing all the screws and prising the back off. After replacing said drive, I noticed that one screw needed to secure the drive in place was missing. That's odd, I thought to myself. Not a problem though - I've got a extensive selection of screws, and duly found one. How clever of me.
After clicking the back cover back on, and putting back all the screws, there was one screw that wouldn't go in. "This is very peculiar", I thought. I then looked into the hole of the problematic screw, only to see the the head of the "new" screw I'd previously put there.
Cue much gnashing of teeth, as I prised the back off again, quite possibly breaking a plastic clip in the process this time.
Moral (to self) : never try to be clever. Doing so almost always backfires.

I see we went to the same mechanic's school.

I used to work on "high availability" IT systems. Ones that were linked across data centres to be able to takeover in the event of major disasters.
This sometimes involved sitting in machine rooms on a screen, with multiple 'windows' on my one screen to different systems.
I can neither confirm nor deny that a live 'NotEast' Stockbrokers system was halted mid afternoon due to typing it in the wrong window 👀
Luckily, that was back in the 90s....& I have stepped away from the keyboard.....
Oh, & then there was the time I powered a rack of kit on without ensuring individual shelves were off. That was when I discovered the meaning of the term "inrush current", whereby although the rack could happily run once running, the surge on bootup was enough to trigger a trip switch.....& a chunk of datacentre powered off with it
Or the time I had to slide a rack of drives out, & one caught on a belt buckle, nudging it's locking button and sliding the disc within to the floor 😳

I just had an inadvertent Wim Hof experience.
I'd inexplicably turned the shower knob clockwise (unheated) rather than anticlockwise (10.5kW), then left it "warm up" whilst i undressed.
And because i didnt want any water to splash on the floor (because it's halfway through being replaced), i literally dashed into the cubicle so i could quickly shut the door behind me.
The loud noise i made was not my finest moment.
I've only had 2 decades to get used to these controls!
