the intuitive logic of these RR derailleurs is quite helpful. On flat bar bikes you push the shifters if you need to go to a higher gear and pull/release to go to a lower gear.
On the right hand side of a flat bar bike with typical derailleur, as you say @Mike Ayling: "Release gets you a higher gear, push for a lower gear."
However on both sides of a flat bar bike with rapid rise RD, release gets you a lower gear, push for a higher gear.
@Mike Ayling - do you like your rapid rise shifters (see thread title)? Do yours work a different way?

Rivendell have now put their OM1(Opposite Movement) derailleur on sale in the US. It's likely to be sold here with Dia Compe branding.

I'm saving my pennies to buy one along with matching Dia Compe bar end shifters.

Anyone else agree that this arrangement gives a very practical and simple gear change?

No, quite the opposite in my experience. The only advantage I can see is if a cable breaks it defaults to the largest sprocket not the smallest thus leaving you in a usable gear.

Or you use a cable tie to hold your derailleur in the required position?

Or move the mech in by hand, and adjust the endstop to hold it there.

It is what I have done on the old bike that I use on my turbo trainer, which uses virtual gearing. The gear shifter on that bike was broken and not needed anyway, so I have moved the mech to exactly line the jockey wheels up with the Zwift cog and fixed it there.
