This will no doubt upset the purists among the cycling community, but I’m a ‘fair weather’ cyclist.
I can’t be bothered with cycling in foul weather ... i.e. battling against strong winds, and raining cat’s ‘n ‘dogs

Anyone else feel the same way? ...

I commute in the rain no bother, but I don't enjoy pleasure rides in the wet. I do enjoy running in the rain though, so if it's tanking down I will go out for a jog rather than get out the wheels.

Case of needs must were cycling to work is concerned - dont mind a bit of rain, but prefer not to ride when its very windy.

Riding in the rain can (IMO!) be pleasurable, if properly prepared (physically and mentally).

The only time I don't like riding in the rain is riding into work, which is (generally) a pain, knowing that you've got to get dry, hoping that your office kit is still dry etc.

Riding home or riding for shitz'n'giggles is ok, on the right bike and in the right clothing. I quite like riding in the rain, I like it's cooling effect.

If it's going to work then I'd rather ride than walk... but the weekend pleasure ride is definitely weather dependent. Battling the wind isn't much fun.

I haven't ridden in the heavy rain since I was born again but as I recall it was ok once you got used to the idea of being wet. I used to wear a bin liner if it was really heavy.

The wind can eff off though.

I agree entirely. I ride for fun and fitness, not necessity, so don't feel the need to ride in bad weather, unless it comes on when I'm already out.

Despite this attitude, I have still managed a 23min 10mTT this summer as I use a turbo trainer to maintain/improve fitness indoors when the weather is bad. The cycling community is made up of many types, not just 'purists'.

Would that be Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
I had no idea, but after a quick Google, it would appear so.........................

"My dear,

Weather is neutral. It’s neither good nor bad. It just is. What’s bad about it is how prepared you are for it.

The snow isn’t bad if you have a warm jacket or house and a cup of hot cocoa. The scorching heat isn’t bad if you have an air conditioned house and a cooler filled with ice cold beer.

There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.

Same goes for fortune.

There is no such thing as bad fortune. Only inappropriate expectations and reactions.

Truly yours,
Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes"

Yup! Add dark winter mornings to the list.
