Would be between:

Behemoth - The Satanist
Triptykon - Melana Chasmata

Honourable mention to Death From Above 1979's The Physical World.

I'm getting a copy of At The Gates' new effort tomorrow, but I'm not exactly excited. Taake release Stridens Hus at the beginning of December and I've high hopes for that.

@ianrauk - I can't get into Mastodon's latest effort, after many listens. For me, their their first four albums are absolutely original classics, but then they used The Hunter as an interlude into a fairly mainstream metal sound. Not that they don't deserve a huge bag of money for their initial creativity, I just think they've lost it a bit: they once gave us concept albums about Moby Dick, and now serve up lame Ramones style chants. Maybe I'm being a dick about it though?

I haven't bought many and couldn't list a favourite just yet, though I'm leaning towards Judas Priest and Accept.

Accept - Blind Rage
Edguy - Space Police: Defenders Of The Crown
Gamma Ray - Empire Of The Undead
Judas Priest - Redeemer Of Souls
Threshold - For The Journey

Living in Norway I don't get the hear much non-mainstream music that you get in GB and USA.

A band that I like more and more, though, is alt=j. They've released two albums and I'll be getting them (still buy CDs - not clever enough to download them) asap.

Glad to see another Triptykon-ite.....MC is a truly stunning effort. Got to love that Warrior fella!

re: Mastadon - I confess to being a later starter with the band. I never really gave them any attention. But this album has really grabbed me. The guitar work and interplay between the musicians is fantastic.

Warrior is brilliant. He's such a pretentious nobber as well, which adds to his charm. Their tour dates are under 'Itinerary' on the website. Brilliant!

I was relatively late to the Mastodon party as well - my first album was Crack the Skye, the last of their four concept albums. Like you say, the guitar work is still fantastic, but for me it really lacks the impact of their earlier work, Leviathan and Crack the Skye in particular.

Damn fine list...

Have you got/listened to Hell's - Curse and Chapter. A damn fine album and sits very comfortably with your list.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor album Wanderlust is a really strong album and a great change in direction for her. Probably wins it for me but also George Ezra album has to be up there along with Paloma Faiths new album (but she does go a bit "Duffy" on some of the tracks and you need to be in the right mood or not have a hangover.
