Favourite cycle route?

Hi guys,

I would like to know what everyone's fav cycle route is, mine is the Birmingham canal route! However I do also enjoy taking my bike to Sarehole Mill and riding around there too . So...what's your favourite cycle route???!

I ride miles and miles, either to/from work or between counties at the weekend.

My favourite though is the one to the local chip-shop.

I like the Tissington trail, but don't try it at the weekend as its jammed full of cyclists and dog walkers.
Lovely on a weekday though.

Tough choices. All the best ones I've ridden have got good and bad. The Bristol and Bath Railway Path is great... except where it gets too narrow or the junctions are screwed up or the surface has gone... the Newport Nobby is also good except for the junctions at the ends... the Walks/Sandringham Railway Path is lovely, but ends in a no-cycling street at the town end and a confused barrier-strewn park route at the Woottons end... the Strawberry Line is beautiful but the surface sucks and it gets a bit lost in Cheddar and doesn't extend to Wells yet... the Gordano Valley cycleway is also beautiful but suffers occasional nobber motorists... Route 1 through Holkham Park is stunning, has very few motorists but does have cattle grids and it's a poor choice between the busy bendy coastal A road and a sand track at its north end... Gravel Bank on Route 1 is pretty special in the right conditions but it's just a fen road really...

In other words, I think I'm still looking for my favourite. The best bit of most of them is where they take you.

Living near the Sustrans 2 route ( one of the longest routes I believe in the UK )

lt would be nice to complete it , abet in stages as I am not that fit! .

The Shoreham to Peacehaven parts are within easy reach BUT there are some issues with part of the route that ARE NOT TRIKE FRIENDLY .

ITS A SHAME that the people that design / allocate the routes DON'T ACTUALLY TRY RIDING THEM ON A TRIKE !!!!!!
Part of the route goes over a lock gate in shoreham and unless you have a narrow trike you cannot get the trike over the lock gates


If you goes west on that part then you have a 5 miles detour back to Hove and then on again to Shoreham on a busy road

Another part on Shoreham beach the concrete pillars are to close to allow access

The new Ferry Bridge between Shoreham and the beach is rather nice and is part of the SUSTRAN 2 route

My favourite of the last year is only a short 12 miles between Deal and Sandwich. It takes me along the seafront, through Sandwich Bay and then back through the country lanes home.

However until i moved i loved cycling around the lanes of West Kent from West Malling through to Marden and all the villages to Rye.

How far do you commute to/from work? My daily commute is about 12 miles (4 miles to/from work, 2 miles to/from gym)

Your trike looks epic! It must be frustrating though, with places not being accessible by trikes

I'd love to do some of the themed routes we happened across in Belgium in their entirety. Particularly the Kastellroute, and one I think was called the Hoproute (the latter took in local breweries, as far as I could tell).

Yep. But in my case I avoid like the plague big and busy main roads and busy towns. Lanes for me
