Gashed hand on chainring when taking off drive-side pedal?

PS I just noticed that it was a finger injury not the rest of the hand. Yep - I'd go with caught between ring and chain!

ooops! no sorry ColinJ NOT caught between ring & chain.......

I reckon it's spinning the back wheel really fast with the bike upside-down, then sticking your finger inquisitively between the spokes. Like my friend Paul did when we were kids.

Yikes..........but no it wasn't that either.........

Opening one of those welded plastic containers that had perhaps brake pads in, there was slippage with the sharp thing and then a swear word followed by leakage?

Most places these days have a fast triage function to decide how urgently you need to be seen. Having a suspected heart attack puts you near the front of the queue, having hurt your finger near the back as you are unlikely to get worse or die from waiting a bit while they deal with the heart attack patient.

I could have 'bled out'!!

I once managed to clamp a finger in a front mech while fitting it. It didn't injure it, just held it, very firmly. Since I couldn't reach either my land line, or my mobile, and lifting the whole bike was tricky, I did wonder if I'd starve to death. Eventually (well, after about 30 seconds probably), I managed to pull the spring back just enough to get the finger out.

I'm betting on a cable/outer trimming operation gone bad.

Sorry Arch........not that either!

GWS Cyclox!

My personal theory is a 'tool related' injury, eg. slipped with cable cutters or something...

Thank you Sittingduck for your GWS.....it does hurt like hell & wont stop throbbing. Couldn't sleep last night but slept most of the day so knackered. The meds did help.

But no it wasn't tool related!
