North West Frontier - a stirring tale of daring do with the plucky Brit up against overwhelming odds, although not particularly PC by modern standards. Still a good film though.

Kes - I thought this was a documentary when I first saw it and it has a core of gritty, downbeat realism that still resonates.

Local Hero - I watched this transfixed the first time I saw it and it was the same when I last watched it a few months ago. If you've never seen it you're missing out on a genuinely heartwarming tale.

I saw "Goodbye Emmanuelle" in a bizarre double bill with Terence Malick's Badlands.

Local Hero is a great film, I didnt like it the first time I saw it but watched it again recently and really enjoyed it.
