True you do get punctures, but invariably they seal up..
I once did a ride around Isle of Wight on tubular tyres with sealant added. On the ferry there were 5 weep marks where pinprick punctures self sealed.
Its the same for my tubeless tyres too, normally one or two pin prick holes sealed.
