Yeah cos that's down to the bike ;)
You've got it....

I don't have a problem with anyone spending 3k on a bike(I've just done it myself). But spending that kind of money not knowing what you actually want from a bike is where I think my problem lies. BTW, I do realise that 3k may be pocket change to the OP but I don't see that as the point.

But he does know what he wants to use it for . I did say in my first reply however that he should look at a range of brands and bikes

Ha ha cheers all some really good points & yes I've realised that I don't need to spend £3k on my first road bike for the various reasons above , not knowing anything admitally about road bikes I thought that's what I'd have to spend so really just plucked that figure out the air if I'm honest , and the idea if I will actually like it or not / get on with a road bike so think we can say it'll be nearer the £1000 - £1500 mark to start now lol !

See I'm willing to ask & take on board what you all say lol !

Plus I'm certainly not made of money but I work very hard for myself & I don't drink & I don't smoke & like the finer things in life so nice to have a treat up occasionally !

I'm getting battered from the 3 mates all Bianchi boys through & through lol so yes it will be hard not to get one , plus I've got a good dealer on my doorstep , so think we can say it'll be a Bianchi lol ( sorry non Bianchi boys ! ) though will try a few as not in to much rush yeah right whilst I kid myself again !

I'll mull it over on my ride tomorrow morning when Im going to try & complete 40 miles on my MTB , 33 & 38 miles done last week so should be good hopefully !

Thanks again to everyone for the input so far & please continue as I'm taking it all on board

But still, he doesn't know what he's going to be comfortable riding. A safe bet would be a Defy, Synapse type bike as they have tall head tubes with plenty of spacers which can be taken out as his road bike fitness improves. I think it's highly unlikely that someone with zero road bike experience would feel comfortable riding a slammed race bike geometry road bike for anything more than a couple of hours. And it's entirely plausible that someone would buy this type of bike as it's what the pros use innit!

There are also Bianchis with more relaxed geometry as pointed out before

Brand wise, I'd certainly take the Italian over a giant, cannondale, specialized or Trek

3k hey

I would go speak to rouke, shand, condor, enigma, pearson and get something bespoke that fits my needs.......1.5 to 2k on the frame
500 on ultegra 11speed, handbuilt wheels £350, then 150 on finishing kit and be the envy of your mates on their off the shelf, everybody has one/needs/wants bianchi

Excellent suggestion  Pearson don't do bespoke frames but they will build the bike to your spec

Definitely go to Condor on the Grays Inn road :okay:

Bianchi is a nice bike but you are paying over the top because of the name. Unless you can get a deal on last years models or mates rates.:okay:
You really need a Cervelo.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
Believe me you actually do really, really need a Cervelo!

S3 might be a bit too much for a first road bike, The R3 is a thing of great beauty, but I'm biased.

Think if all the guys I was riding with had bianchi's it'd make me stubborn to get something else, heh.
Still, what brands you can get locally is a good place to start.

At the price range you are now considering £1-£1.5k, I would be tempted by a trek domane or the genesis datum. The latter is slightly above budget but the red one looks fantastic.

I don't even notice what other club riders are riding, unless it's interesting like a restored steel Mercian or somesuch. What exactly (no, I'm not interested in vague words like "quality" - be specific) do you get from spending three grand you don't get from spending £500?

It's nonsense to claim that any one bike is better than another. Most bikes above £250 are good enough and in any case a novice will usually buy a bike, use it for a while and then realise they want something different, lighter or more specialised to the kind of riding that interests them. If the OP has a Bianchi shop close by it would be silly to travel further and buy something else because Bianchi will have a bike to suit him, such as my original suggestion of the Via Nirone C2C, which is aimed exactly at riders like him.

Haha, I love the way you argue it doesn't matter what he gets and twist to mean he should get a Bianchi
