Fixing a bike after a road accident

PK99 under which kind of insurance did you claim? I have a pedal cycles option on my house insurance. I don't know if it would cover road traffic accidents.

Hope it all works out, just check with your lawyers you don't get caught in the betterment trap.

I don't think that should be an issue. The bike was taken straight from the site of the accident to an LBS, who quoted cost to repair to a pre-accident state which, since the bike was 3 months old, was effectively brand new.

That's the report the lawyers have, so that's what the claim will be for. I don't see how that could qualify as betterment, but I can check with my lawyers.

Hope you recover soon. If it were me, well a new front wheel - unless you have Chris King or Hope hubs in the front then I'd go for a new rim/rebuild. I'd drop the forks out and give them a thorough inspection, probably do similar for the handlebars too taking them off the stem and looking for damage. I'd replace if any damage seen. Also I'd inspect the frame, hopefully its just the wheel.....

I checked the crash assessment from the LBS. They have listed:
Front & Rear wheels, bar tape, shifters, pedals, rear mech, and something that looks like "Rear Lube" not sure what that one is.

Notably, they haven't listed the fork.

I'm hoping that the shifters, pedals, and rear mech are just cosmetic. If that's the case, then a set of wheels should get me back on the road.

Shifters look like they work okay. I won't know for sure until I get new wheels on it and get it out for a ride.

The LBS quoted me £120 for wheels in the crash report. For that price, I could get: Shimano RS-11, RS-21, RS-010, or Campagnolo G3 khamsin. Any thoughts?

The cost they quoted for it was £5.99, so that's plausible.

Got on a bike this weekend and rode 22 miles. The bike was a bit big for me, since I borrowed it from my neighbour, but never the less, I felt pretty good after it. My new wheels are on order: Campagnolo Khamsin Asymmetric G3.
