I am hoping someone can help me with my quest. I've had recent knee surgery and on the advice of the surgeon have taken taken up cycling thought as my knee hasn't healed yet I haven't been out.
I bought a used bike off a forum member dave5416 and have had the LBS give it a once over.

I've decided to go for non clip in pedals to start with as it's probably 30 years since I was on a road bike and I will feel safer with these until I move on to clip ins.

Anyway the physio has advised that when I do get on the bike that I try to avoid any steep hills so I'm looking for a flattish route I can practice on around Macclesfield. The best I have come across is from Monks Heath traffic lights towards Chelford but if anyone knows of a better one or a flatter one then please advise.
Thanks

How about the Middlewood way?

I would think wider tyres would be better, though I've done a lot of the TPT on my road bike and that's rougher, just got to take it a bit easier and get up off the saddle more

Monks Heath , Alderley bypass to wilmslow, to mobberley and knutsford then back to monks Heath on the 537. Only 1 Bump worth mentioning to contend with in mobberley which is 200yards long.

If. You stay away from Prestbury and Holmes chapel everything is pretty flat. Some lovely loops by plumley based around middlewich road, you can use sevensisters road to link the 537 and the a50, only 20yards to the turning.

Have a look on my strava, most of my rides would be suitable.

If you look at ridewithgps they have other peoples rides in the area. If you want flattish around Macc I would head out towards Gawsworth Congleton and Sutton. Lots of nice lanes with flat options. Any hill will seem like hard work at first but just take your time and and spin at pace where you are not putting too much pressure on the knees.

You won't get far riding a road bike on the Middlewood Way at the moment, it's more like the Middle Mud Way, churned up to buggery especially at the a Stockport end, caused mainly by plant machinery driving up and down it, oh and of course MTB's

If you had an OS map in front of you and drew a line from alderley down to marton then west to Holmes chapel, north to knutsford and then back to alderley you would have a rectangle with barley a bump in it.

Are you going to start from your house or have you the option of transporting your bike in a vehicle. I ask, as all roads going west from macc seem to be downhill, which means your return journey will be more challenging.

Good luck

I was going to plan a route then get to it in the car, park up and cycle round it.
I'll have a look at the route you suggested.

If you park up at Redesmere you can nip across the A34 and you're in flat lane heaven.

How far are you planning on riding?

That's the problem I don't know as I don't want to do to far in case my knee starts playing up. Ideally a two mile circuit that I could keep going round would be ideal.

You may find a suitable route of that length much closer to home but it might be on busy/built up roads. (Although I do recall a cycle path that goes from macc towards bollington)

If you want a bit of peace and quiet head out of town
