SE Lakes - a lot less flies here than usual which is merciful as we can't stand the irritating things.

A lot less spiders, too.

I've noticed an increase in flies this summer, bluebottles in particular.

We are near a tidal lake/estuary in Plymouth. We haven't noticed any more flies, perhaps 1 or 2 in the house but not much more. We also get a few mozzies or things that look like tiny daddy long legs/crane flies but again not a significant increase.

I did see 2 horse flies in here last week which were the first I've ever seen here. But since then, they seem to have gone.

I wonder if you are near any cattle or large mammals where you live? When we lived on a farm, we'd often fill up 3 sticky fly papers to busting within a week

Not really noticed, we rarely see any flies in our first floor flat, I guess they don't like flying too high off the ground.

A few weeks ago we had a huge influx of blue bottles. But they seem to have gone now.
Horrible. I’ve seen a few food bins crawling with maggots.

I think wind is also a factor (phnarr phnarr). They can't land properly if it's too windy, so are much more active when it's calm. Our area is quite windy so maybe that's why we don't see as many. They are also after moisture when it's dry, so if there's not much around to drink, you might see more in the house trying to pitch near sinks etc

I hav`nt noticed as many " normal flies", as in house fly types but there have been lots more small flies/insects. These seem to come and go. I had been bitten a few times by these insects, they seem to like me. Around some farms, where there are animals, these can be quite bad.

It's absolutely covered in flies now

I have just got a picture in my mind.It's of Drago's kitchen window it is open but in the gap,he has hung his y fronts,all i can see are many bluebottles crashing in to each other one after another all trying to get away.
