Some unfortunate news, a friend of mine was to travel with me for next weeks ride, it would have been his first FNRttC, however an incident this morning involving a mountain bike and some rocks has resulted in a busted up knee and a fractured elbow...

I wasn't there, saving myself for the Strines ride.

Simon, please remove Dan S from the list. I am currently seeking a stand in as he had already booked his rail ticket and there are no refunds.

There's currently roadworks between the Pound Lane lights and the five roundabout intersection at Sadlers Farm on the road between Pitsea and Benfleet which means, in theory, there is no way through for East bound traffic. There are cones blocking off the entire Eastbound side of the road for 150 yards, making this road effectively one way (ie Westward traffic only). Cars cannot pass and have to turn round. This is on Simon's usual route. However this can be traversed by bike with care and I have been doing this all week. The roadworks may be gone by this time next week but I wouldn't bet on it. The peleton will need to slow down and take it single file on this part of the route and avoid the RH lane which can have fast traffic coming in the opposite direction from the Sadlers Farm (A13/A130) intersection.

The alternative is to go on to the usually busy A13 between Pitsea and Benfleet but that's not to be recommended.

Chris - I did the cones on the B1464 earlier in the week, and again this morning - and I'll check again, probably Friday morning. To be honest we could take to the footpath for a length of the excavation - at that time in the morning nobody is going to notice, let alone mind.

people were still smuggling spirits in to the UK in Maldon in the early 1970s. And using sailing boats. And taking the sails down, bringing the keel up and rowing across the sandbanks with muffled oars. How cool is that!

Very cool as long as they were not Red Light Jumping as well. My Grandmother used to live in Benfleet (when she used to live, that is) so I know the rough and ready types there.....

I have a stinking cold, but I'm banking on it being better by Friday.

Morning all. Ahem, erm. Room for one more? I have a mental day in the office Friday, deadlines all over the place. Should all be in flames by close of play, so plenty of time to get across town and play.

Steady now. ;)

If you're talking about the motorists, then am inclined to agree though.

sorry TC but every ride I've attended has had good weather......I can't make this one, so...............

Well, Bludge - you'll be missed. In your own right and as a bringer of clear nights with light following winds. We'll still have to kill you with a specially blunted spoon if the weather's grim, though...

Sig, are you riding back then? Perhaps James and I can trundle along with you as far as Hadleigh... I'll try not to get lost again!

Well I definitely will be. However I need to be back in Benfleet for 9.20 am to deal with the usual kiddie things on Saturday. So a prompt exit from The Rose for me this time.
