Clive - I've been through the system on Parham, and the reply was from the management.............
Dear Mr Legg,
Lady Emma Barnard has passed onto me your letter regarding the forthcoming Night Ride.
It sounds great fun. Having given the matter much thought we regrettably feel that we will have to say no for security reasons and also because of the deer herd who are another principal reason why we have to keep the gates locked overnight.
Our suggestion is that you might like to consider taking the small country road that skirts the northern and western boundaries of the park. You take a turning off the Pulborough to Storrington road about a mile from the main Parham entrance.
This route has exactly the same effect as going through the park and at that time will be deserted- it is almost that during the day.
Any problems over finding it, let me know.
Apologies again over not coming through the park, but hope you understand.
Kind regards,
Richard Pailthorpe
General Manager
Parham House & Gardens
Writing to Lady Emma B was a bit of a tactic - she comes across as somebody who's up for a laugh, and I thought that if she handed the letter to the estate management it might get a bit of a push behind it. Ho-hum.
