I've taken a half day with that in mind. I'm not usually very good at sleeping during the day, but I ended up having a late night last night, so maybe.

yep, same here, went to bed at 2am and got up at 7am, going to have a big lunch then go to bed at about 2pm.

I have tried to sleep on the train on the way down from Hull and have had varied success, once I woke up just as the train pulled into Kings Cross another time I got sat next to a geezer who spent the entire journey on his phone organising his forthcoming busy weekend. It did sound quite a weekend as well, I was nearly tempted to ditch the ride and join him!!!

Am having a half day so I can get home early to rest, try to sleep and mentally and physically prepare. Probably get 30 miss worth of Zzzz's, but it will do.

PS, I am giving a pint of my blood today so that will knock me out for sure after.. nothing a kebab cant sort out though!

I've never taken any time off for one of these rides. I probably average less than one hour of sleep before departure (I think I slept for 1.5hrs once). I only had a problem on one ride, but I had been sleeping poorly the whole week leading up to the ride.

YMMV

was that the ride to Southend? I remember you leaning against a farm gate with your eyes closed.

I try and sleep, but I don't really succeed. And, as Adrian knows, the train ride back can get a bit sloppy....

That's the one. In addition to the gate I also grabbed a few minutes kip sitting on the pavement atop Bread&Cheese.

Hi Will

Have sent you my route by email but we could meet up at Euston if you want tho I won't be there until after 11, with 2 others. Coming from Milton Keynes.

Clive

The quickest & easiest way to HPC from there is to go along Euston Road/Marylebone Road (but diverting off onto the cyclepath rather than going down the underpass under Tottenham Court Road), then left down Seymour Place, a little wiggle along and down, and then you're on Park Lane. After a nice zoom past all the posh (but empty) car showrooms, you're at Hyde Park Corner. Clicky for route.

That way, there's only a few traffic lights, not much traffic, not many turns, and it takes 15-20 mins.

I'll try, if you like, not sure of the route exactly but I know London so will work out a route this evening. Your train is coming in at 10:33 right?

EDIT: And I wont be replying again until later because I'm off to school. Yes, school.

I assume we're not meeting on the corner of Wandsworth Road and Cedars Road @ 11:25 anymore?

What's all this gay afternoon naps and half days?

Rode in this morning with full on Friday legs, into a proper headwind for the third day running

A brand new slow flat on the rear tyre (new trye and tube to be fitted this evening!)

I'll be riding past Euston and Kings Cross at about 11.20 if anyone's stuck, genuinely on my way too

And through the underpass to boot and then round the manly full on Marble Atch and Park Lane, that's one big chunk of raod

And yes, I'm a bit peaky too, my approach is always just to bloody well go, no prep no nada

As for TEC, Hatler is first reserve, I'm for dire emergencies only

So quietly confident it is, if not outright cavalier

if you do, you'll see it again at 12.20. And the architecture will be sublime on both occasions!

Why not simply take the train to Victoria?

Except that from the TEC list for this section of the ride

Horley to the Greenhouses - Mike E, Kathy P, Tim P, Des O'D, with Hatler and Tynan in reserve - you will receive mail

both the Ps have cried off. Meaning first and second reserves will be required !!
