FNRttC FNRttC to Brighton - November 27th 2009

My Altura night vision overtrousers worked as did my windtex cycle chat top. I did put my polaris jacket on over the top when we all stopped at the start of the rain.
I got caught out in another downpour yesterday without the windtex under the polaris, and i was almost freezing by the time i got home.

Susie keeps on hiding it. Is she trying to tell me something?

I have only just recovered and shall be blogging at some point but wow, what a ride.

I had to lead my children in a concert on the Saturday night and mum said I looked like death. An hour's soak in a hot bath sorted my feet but I was too wired to sleep much.

Does anyone know if the ladies from Hull got to their destinations?

I took them to the Marylebone Road near Paddington and pointed one to King's Cross and the others to Maida Vale. I must say they seemd remarkably calm and pleasant about it all. I'd have been planning slow torture for Mike!

I did find it a bit weird that my amateur footwear seemed to be just as useless as even the posh stuff when it came to keeping feet warm but apart from that I actually enjoyed it all..... in retrospect.

Kudos to the repair men/women and the wayfinders. I was right behind the guy with the skewer issue and had to go to the front to alert them to the lost bolt. I've never done a back to front before and now I know why! I was KNACKERED.

Huge thanks to Simon and the other organisers, if you hadn't managed to gather such a great bunch of people I don't think we'd have made it in such good spirits and with such camaraderie.

Oh and who the hell decided to use that picture of me in the 2010 brochure!?!?!??!?!

I did. And you look damn good in it. As quite a few people have pointed out.

Thankyou so much for the help with the Ladies from Hull. I've only just worked my way through the text messages I've received over the weekend (surprisingly few promising revenge). A good deed indeed, which assures you pride of place in the 2011 guide.

I was glad to help, it's more than a bit tricky getting out of the Victoria one-way bit and if the FNRttC's taught me anything it's that the world is a nicer place when people help one another.

theclaud - add in a 30mph crosswind, and you've got the finale of the March 2008 FNRttC........

Hail is a bugger if you're in shorts. I've been caught and my legs have turned the colour of raw liver.

I think he had a pair of longs on until we got to Faygate, then dispensed with them because they were soaked through. A real toughie.

Hmmmmm, I was worried for his... ahem... manhood.

Quite right to, after being out yesterday I'm on the look out for a cylcing specific furry codpiece......not sure whether to aim for stealth or high vis!

That was Andy A's cousin Dan I think...if memory serves he didn't have any leg-warmers or longs of any description (remember asking him how he was doing when we were in the tunnel). No madder than the rest of us. That said, since my bail-out options were limited to either a 4 am train from Gatwick- assuming the loonies of BAA would grant me access- which would get me back into Pompey at 7.20 (via Clapham Junction), still soaking wet and hacked off, or a hideously expensive cab fare, ditto- proceeding was almost certainly the best bet even at the time. With hindsight it definitely was....
