I am really struggling this afternoon to follow these posts and feel this is not the place for those big intimidating words. As Teef pointed out I use the train journey to London to read my "book of big words" but at the moment I am a long way off joining in on a Claud, MacB, Dellzeqq conversation...;)

but beware the proviso in the OP. I am serious. Temperature drops, ride gets cancelled. The survivors of the November 2006 ride will back me up on this.

blah, blah, blah...weather....it's a tad chilly. We northern people flourish in these conditions (I shall remember to pack my own little bag of grit to assist me on the beacon...;))

checked out a new route to the Cabin Cafe this morning - more a stitching together of bits of other route - and discovered that there's one thing that doesn't show up on google maps....horse poo. I was covered by the time I got down to Faygate, my new carbon fibre soled white shoes looking very grubby.

Then on to Brighton on a route shown me by Manotea, late of ACF. Without the embarrassing off-road bits, although one short hill is, by my reckoning, not do-able on a road bike, there being an inch of leaf mulch on a 1 in 7 incline. Much to commend it, though, with some lovely flat wide sections and one glorious gentle descent lasting a couple of miles.

I'm happy to walk said hill and be escorted by any gentlemen who 'feel I shouldn't have to do it alone' and are definitely NOT just too knackered..

Do you think there's any chance that the leaf mulsh might have been washed away in time for the ride? I think most of the leaves have already fallen for this autumn, so surely it can't get any worse.

Very impractical! You wouldn't catch MacB in a pair of those...

There you go, just as I'm feeling the love for you again you have to go and take another swing.............Oh, sorry, you meant cleated cycling shoes didn't you........yep stupid idea and wouldn't be seen dead in them, make you walk funny, fall off your bike and don't bring anywhere near as much to the party as the 'fans' would have you believe........shiny white trainers though.......

I knew you'd rise above it, and would have the kind of shoes that look just as good when covered in horse shoot .

Coo! Pretty whizzy. Don't tell me you've got his 'n' hers versions! Did you do the Ditchling thing with the Babe?
no and no - although her cycling shoes are white as well. And we only went as far as Gatwick.

But Ditchling is probably off the menu for November 27th
