Nobody cares about any of the WC matches for more than a day, except the final - and that’s only if their team wins it.
So you believe this is the result that Southgate was aiming for?

At this level you cannot turn on and off the ability/motivation to continue winning. Southgate and his team will have wanted to and tried to win. They just came up against a top tier team.
Southgate made eight changes to the team because we didn't need to win and the Belgians fielded a weakened team aswell ,we showed no real intent nor did we bring on anyone to try and win the game ,he will field the strongest team and the whole attitude will be different for Columbia, tonites match felt more like a friendly.

I'd definitely rather have played Japan than Colombia. A tactical misfire i'd say it was, last night.

Well, knowing how Sod's Law is applied, Mexico will of course now beat Brazil and we'll fall flat on our face against Colombia. Never fails...

However, Colombia haven't played too well (they've been erratic at best), they *were* on the verge of going out until Jan Bednarek scored for Poland, and their best player isn't fully fit.

Of course, as with any south american team, you *can't* get complacent; they might not necessarily play as a coherent team, they can be erratic as I've said, but they are capable of those moments of individual brilliance that can come and bite you on the backside if your defence so much as loses concentration for a second.

England will have to be disciplined defensively and won't be able to afford missing any chances they might get in the game.

Let's hope we get the same outcome as we did last century.

This is becoming increasingly true, mainly because England have been poor for decades, and have yet to show any signs of real improvement. Last night we looked and played like a bottom half PL team and the so called first choice team is similolar lacking any serious creativity.

Colombia are one of three teams to win all their games to date - obviously they’re not very good and we will stroll in to the WC final.

Look around the PL and ask where does the creativity come from?

The whole thing has a terrible feeling of de ja vu.

True if you're an England fan.

Come on,we know deep down inside that England won't win the WC,but we like to pretend to ourselves that we have a really good chance. It's a bit like Christmas. We all like to join in the festivities and the celebration of 'Our lord's' birthday, but deep down not many of us really think JC ever existed. It's an excuse for a piss up,to put our flags and bunting out and to all feel a part of one great thing. There's nothing wrong in doing this! It's the joining in of the world's greatest sporting event, whether you like football or not. If we go out on Tuesday i'll be disappointed not so much because we won't be winning the World Cup...again!,but because all the flags and bunting will be coming down and that feel good factor will disappear. Then we'll get down to the serious stuff of analysing Brazil's 'genius' or Argentina's 'blood and guts, never say die attitude'. Yawn bloody yawn!!:tired:
