I could not disagree more.

Hmmmmm, I don't disagree with that Ted talk but it's conflating lots of different examples together which need the context of the moment. Transcribing that to the world cup, specifically to that last game needs the context of the occasion. If the Colombians are going to delay the game at crucial points, England have to be prepared to do the same and the sportsmanship we can see in things like, Southgates empathy with the player who missed the penalty. Ultimately though when you reach a certain level of competition, it's about winning.

Isn't that more about the attitude to the win? At all costs, no thanks.
Maybe it's just me but to put in cycling terms if there is a sprint or a challenge on (and i do like to compete) I don't draft, I will purposely put myself out to the side to get a true comparison. My conscience will not accept a crafted win.

Profoundly disagree with you. That attitude is part of the reason I have so little interest in so much sport.

And part of the reason Chris Hoy never bothered teaching me to fall off my bike. I'd rather ride it.
What quality do you think Chris Hoy possessed to win. Have you ever watched the men's sprint or the women's. I remember watching Kristina Vogel completely psyche out her opponents on the start line. Show me where that skill is defined in the book of fair play.

I dunno, it's an interesting conversation to have. Does the winning matter. I think the context is everything.

Trump and Brexit vote we’re dead giveaways that I was living in an alternate reality, but I’m pretty sure this time stream started when we didn’t win the World Cup in 2006 with obviously the best team ever.

It’s good see the time stream is being healed.

Crax, to compromise your integrity for a win is not ok.
I'm not advocating that though. Keeping this to the context of the world cup, do you think Walker should have stayed on his feet when he had cramp and effectively reduce England to ten men or gone down and had the game stopped while he was treated. Notwithstanding the excruciating pain of the cramp which needs treating to relieve it?

That would be entirely in the spirit of the game.

Not in the spirit of the game. A sportsman would not countenance this.
So there we differ. You're probably thinking Neymar, whereas I'm thinking making sure that if you're fouled, the ref sees it, especially if it's happened previously. Despite that, I don't think we're that far apart in our views.
