Transcribing that to the world cup, specifically to that last game needs the context of the occasion. If the Colombians are going to delay the game at crucial points, England have to be prepared to do the same and the sportsmanship we can see in things like, Southgates empathy with the player who missed the penalty. Ultimately though when you reach a certain level of competition, it's about winning.

Maybe it's just me but to put in cycling terms if there is a sprint or a challenge on (and i do like to compete) I don't draft, I will purposely put myself out to the side to get a true comparison. My conscience will not accept a crafted win.
What quality do you think Chris Hoy possessed to win. Have you ever watched the men's sprint or the women's. I remember watching Kristina Vogel completely psyche out her opponents on the start line. Show me where that skill is defined in the book of fair play.

I'm not advocating that though. Keeping this to the context of the world cup, do you think Walker should have stayed on his feet when he had cramp and effectively reduce England to ten men or gone down and had the game stopped while he was treated. Notwithstanding the excruciating pain of the cramp which needs treating to relieve it?

Right but scuffing up the penalty spot wouldn't be, I'm guessing your answer would be no, same as mine. The grey area is probably surrounding the referee and exaggerating the effects of a challenge.
