If you look at all world champions, Olympic medallists, etc there are 1000s more non-arrogant sportspeople than there are arrogant ones.

I see where you're coming from but I disagree. I'm with @nickyboy in thinking that there is an inherent arrogance that comes with being a champion at something.
For example I am considerably better than my daughter at pretty much everything apart from soiling myself. Am I arrogant about it? Damn right I am.

That's a disciplined if slightly uninspiring performance from the Saudis. Uruguay haven't really stepped up to the plate, but have capitalized on that one mistake.

I don't think so. Those sportspersons that are really world class and really dominate their opposition. Arrogance comes as part of the package. It's the unfailing belief that they're better that gives them the necessary confidence
And by "world class" I don't mean Harry Kane. I mean Ronaldo, who has been winning games for his team year in year out
