Walk? I've done that distance many times.....my record for 80 miles was 16 hours - there are some on here that have done 80 miles in 12 hours.

Would it be ok to walk on the motorway,as that seems the quickest route?

I could wear a high viz vest and carry a petrol can,pretending my car's run out of fuel and i'm looking for a petrol station.

Yes. I insisted i wanted a small,cheap to run car. He kept insisting that i'd like the Peugeot 307 estate he has for sale,as i could fit my bike in. Not much help really!
