The way I've heard it is that it was all a bit quiet after the introductions, I think the Beatles were a bit a star struck, Elvis joked if you're just going to stare at me I'm going to bed, they all laughed and the ice was broken, so to speak.

Yes, that's the story from Shout. Very different from (the more sensationalist) In My Life. Only a few living people will know the truth, I guess.

I just can see or hear him without picturing every Elvis impersonator there is. He really did become a parody of himself. Having said that Ghetto and suspicious minds are good.
He didn't parody himself, others did it after his death.
The urban myth is that there were fewer than 200 impersonators when he died and now there are 100,000.

Not a clue where I was when he died but can remember what I was doing when JFK was assassinated though.

Where you on a grassy knoll in Dallas perchance?

Old thread Revival time! It's been mentioned quite a lot on social media that today is the 49th anniversary of 'The King's' death. Next year should be a big commemoration as it'll be fifty years! 🧐

It's so long since he died that mentioning him to some young folk now can be met with a reply of 'who'?, or 'I've never heard of him'!😯

I clearly remember my Dad calling upstairs to my Mum, who was in bed, that Elvis had died. I was also in bed, aged 8.

Its odd because my brother had been born about a week earlier and must have only just come home from hospital, but I have no recollection of that being part of the memory.

I'm a bit meh about Elvis in general. No connection, really.
